Spanish extra virgin olive oil in BalanceOil+
Balance Oil+ is made with extra virgin olive oil from the Spanish Picual olive which is selected for its richness in Omega-9 and very high antioxidant content. Omega-9 (Oleic acid) is an important feature, which actively supports the normalization of blood cholesterol levels.4 The olives are of pre-harvest quality and in the process the stones are taken out and only the fruits are cold-pressed, resulting in an extra virgin oil, rich in Omega-9 (Oleic acid) with very high content of antioxidants called polyphenols (above 750 mg/kg), both with several beneficial effects.15 The polyphenols protect the BalanceOil+ in the bottle but even more importantly, also your cells.
Natural tocopherols
Mixed tocopherols are a commonly used antioxidant in dietary supplements. The natural tocopherols used are specifically made from GMO-free, highly refined, soybean oil distillates, which undergo further refining to ensure that they do not contain soy proteins. This means that no allergens are present within the product. The typical composition inside BalanceOil+ is alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherols.
Pure vitamin D3
BalanceOil+ contains vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). We use a natural vitamin D3 made from lanolin, a naturally occurring fat found in sheep’s wool. The vitamin D3 is made by dissolving a precursor to vitamin D3 from the lanolin. It is then chemically altered and activated by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. The chemical process is comparable to the process which occurs in the human skin when it produces vitamin D3 from sunlight exposure.

What we measure
The test measures 11 fatty acids, including saturated, monounsaturated (Omega-9) and polyunsaturated (Omega-6 and Omega-3) fatty acids. Individual fatty acid values are shown in the table and expressed as percentages of the total fatty acids measured. For comparison in the table, the average range for each fatty acid (based on data obtained from a large group of balanced people) is presented as Target Value. The following fatty acids are measured:

This is how your results are calculated
11 fatty acids are analyzed and the total sum of their amounts is considered 100%. For the following 6 values, we use 7 of the fatty acids. The analyzed amount of each of the 7 fatty acids is calculated as a percentage out of the 100%.

Protection value
First, the following 3 recognized health indicators are calculated:
1. The value for the Omega-6 ratio is calculated like this: (DGLA+AA) * 100 / (DGLA+AA+EPA+DPA+DHA)
2. The value for the Omega-3 level is the sum of EPA+DHA
3. The Balance value is calculated as Omega-6 (AA) / Omega-3 (EPA)
Each indicator value is given the same weight in a second calculation and assigned a value between 0 and 100, which is then divided by 3 to get the Protection Value that ideally should be above 90. This does not tell anything about the health status of the person, only the fatty acid protection level.
Note: EPA and DHA values have a high impact on all the calculations and if EPA and DHA percentages are low, then as a result very low or even zero Protection Values are not uncommon.
Omega-3 Index
The Omega-3 Index is the summary of the percentage values for the two marine Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The ideal combined level is at least 8%, but higher values like 10% are desirable. Omega-3’s have many benefits because they are the primary building blocks in your cells. EPA is dominant in the blood, muscles and tissues, while DHA is dominant in the brain, sperm and eyes.
Omega-6:3 Balance
The balance is calculated by dividing the percent value of AA with the percent value of EPA (AA / EPA), which is then expressed as a Balance value, for example 3:1. The Omega-6:3 Balance in the body should preferably be below 3:1. If this ratio is above 3:1, you will benefit from a change in your diet. A low balance of Omega-6 and Omega-3 is important for maintaining normal cell and tissue development (homeostasis) and help the body control inflammation.
Cell membrane fluidity
Fluidity is calculated by dividing the percent value of the two saturated fats with the percent value of the two Omega-3’s. The fluidity value is thus defined as (PA+SA) / (EPA+DHA), and the result is expressed as a fluidity index, for example 3:1. If the fluidity value is below 4:1, it shows that there is sufficient fluidity in cell membranes. The more saturated the fats are in a membrane, the more rigid is the membrane. Conversely, the more polyunsaturated the fats are in a membrane, the more fluid is the membrane. Cell membrane composition and structural architecture is critical for the health of the cells and hence the body. On the one hand, the membrane needs to be rigid enough to provide sound cellular structural architecture. On the other hand, the membrane needs to be fluid enough to allow nutrients in and waste products out.
Mental strength
This is calculated by dividing the percent value of AA with the sum of the percent values of EPA and DHA, i.e. the Mental Strength value = AA / (EPA+DHA). The result is expressed as a mental strength value, for example 1:1. The value should be below 1:1 for sufficient and balanced supply of both Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids to the brain and the nervous system. Cognitive performance improves with increased consumption of marine Omega-3’s EPA and DHA. Childhood and old age are two critical and vulnerable stages and Omega-3 deficiency is associated with learning and memory deficits, as well as mood problems.
Arachidonic acid (AA) index
The AA Index shows the measured value of the Omega-6 fatty acid Arachidonic acid (AA) as a percentage out of the total fatty acids measured. Good average values are in the range of 6.5 to 9.5% with an optimum target value of 8.3%. Arachidonic acid (AA) is the most important Omega-6 fatty acid for the body. It is the starting point for the production of local tissue hormones triggered by Omega-6, such as prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, all with various functions. The overall function is, however, to protect the body from damage by limiting the progression of the infection or the impact of the injury.
Certified test kit
The Zinzino Dried Blood Spot Test is certified to comply with the European regulation 98/79/EB on in vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical devices. This means the test and all its components are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and so the Kit has the CE mark on it.
Taking the test
1. Zinzino Test is an approved in vitro diagnostics product for personal blood sample collection at home.
- First wash your hands with soap and rinse well with warm water and dry them.
2. Take out the sample card from the paper envelope. Save the envelope for later use. Tear off the SAVE part on the sample card and take a picture of the test ID. You can only see your test result with your anonymous test ID. Place the card with the two circles facing up on the table.
3. Stimulate blood flow by making big circles with your arm or shaking the hand downwards for 20 seconds.
4. Take out the single-use lancet. Remove the transparent safety cap and the lancet is ready to use. Use the alcohol wipe to clean the tip of your finger (middle finger is recommended). Place the lancet against the lower part of the fingertip facing the collection paper on the table. Push the top of the lancet towards the finger until you hear a click. The lancet will automatically make a small prick in the finger.
5. Do not touch the filter paper with your fingers.
6. Fill one circle at a time with blood. Squeeze your finger gently and wait for a drop of blood to fall inside the circle by itself. If one drop of blood does not cover the circle, allow one more drop from your finger to drip immediately. Leave the sample card in a horizontal position at room temperature for at least 10 minutes for the samples to dry well.
7. Insert the sample card back into the paper envelope. Then place the paper envelope into the metal bag and close it.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove desiccant packet inside the metal bag.
8. Place the closed metal bag into the big envelope with the laboratory address on it.

The fish oil used in BalanceOil Tutti Frutti is a selectively sourced fish oil grade 20/10 EPA/DHA (vs the industry standard of 18/12), with a unique essential fatty acid profile for both Omega-3 (EPA, DHA, DPA) and Omega-7 (POA, VA). The fish oils we choose are derived from short-lived, wild-caught, small pelagic fish. Primarily, these are anchovies, but we also include sardines and mackerel. All of our oil is derived from fishing areas certified by Friend of the Sea for sustainable fishing in unpolluted waters, something that is ecologically imperative and essential when it comes to getting a high-quality oil free from heavy metals, PCBs, and other toxins.
The fish are carefully steam cooked (no chemicals or solvents are used in this process at any stage), and then the whole fish is pressed in order to retrieve the oil (approx. 3-5% of the fish). As with all fish oils, the oil needs to be refined through a 4-step process. This is done by the manufacturer, LYSI in Iceland, and it eliminates flavours, odors, and any environmental contaminants that otherwise could spoil the quality of the product. Hence our fish oil complies with all EFSA, FDA, and other strict regulations that are found around the globe. Vitamin D
Vitamin D supports important functions within the body, helping to regulate the absorption of calcium12 and phosphorus13, but perhaps the most vital is that it assist with facilitating normal immune system function 1. Further, getting a sufficient amount of vitamin D is important for normal growth and development of bones5,6 and teeth7,8. Like most nutritional and health factors, there is a significant amount of individuality when it comes to addressing our vitamin D needs. Many social and behavioral influences affect our ability to get sufficient amounts of vitamin D through sunshine alone. Factors such as being in an area with high pollution, using sunscreen, the amount of time spent indoors, living and working in big cities where buildings block sunlight, all play a part in how our bodies respond to the sun and produce this essential ‘sunshine vitamin’. Curcumin extract
With its bright yellow color, curcumin is the cornerstone in the ZinoGene+ formulation. As a member of the ginger family, curcumin is produced by plants of the Curcuma longa species. Historically, curcumin has been used in India for thousands of years, both as a spice and as part of their Ayurvedic traditions. Today, it is widely used all around the globe in supplements, cosmetics, food flavoring, and food coloring. There are many different curcumin extracts on the market, but there is a considerable variance when it comes to their bioavailability, and as such they differ a lot when it comes to how much of the ingredient wields an active effect. Quercetin
Quercetin is a natural pigment present in many fruits, vegetables and grains. It has antioxidant properties and belongs to a subgroup of polyphenols called flavonoids. It is estimated that the average person consumes 10–100 mg of it daily through food sources such as onions, apples, capers, berries, broccoli, citrus fruits, cherries, coffee, grapes, green tea, and red wine.
Important to note, is that the amount of quercetin in foods may depend on the conditions in which the food was grown. Fucoidans
Brown seaweed contains an element called fucoidan. Fucoidans from seaweed are non-stick compounds (think of them as the biological equivalent of Teflon). They are found in various species of brown algae and are located in the cell walls of the seaweed plant serving to protect it from external stress.
The nutritional properties of fucoidans are nothing new. Historically, fucoidan-containing seaweed have been used in ancient traditions for thousands of years. Algae oil
The oil derived from the marine microalgae Schizochytrium sp. is rich in the Omega-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). This is the first vegetarian EPA/ DHA product available that provides a bio-alternative to traditional fish oils. Produced in an FDA-inspected and rigorously controlled facility in the USA, it is a concentrated and consistent product.
Ahiflower® oil
Ahiflower oil contains more biologically advanced omegas than any other natural plant source. Its Latin name is Buglossoides arvensis. Ahiflower seeds are pressed to produce a superior omega-rich, containing more biologically advanced plant omegas (like stearidonic acid, SDA) than any other natural plant source. Ahiflower also contains GLA, an essential omega-6 fatty acid. The cold-pressed Ahiflower® seed oil is treated in a low temperature cleansing process where it is physically refined, bleached and deodorized to give it a clear pale yellowish look and neutral smell. It is GMO-free, rich in the Omega-3 fatty acids Omega-3 SDA and ALA, as well as the Omega-6 fatty acid GLA. A superb choice for vegetarians and vegans, Ahiflower® seed oil has an ideal fatty acid profile. Primarily, it contains Omega-3 as Omega-6, and can therefore help to balance the Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio. This is in contrast to most vegetarian oils, which contain excessive Omega-6’s. Secondly, Ahiflower® seed oil contains the rare Omega-3 fatty acid SDA, which is converted five times better to EPA in the body than the typical plant Omega-3 ALA, e.g. in flaxseed. Ahiflower® seed oil also contains the valuable Omega-6 fatty acid GLA.
Extra Virgin Olive oil
The Spanish Picual olive is selected due to its richness in Omega-9 and very high antioxidant content. The olives are of pre-harvest quality and in the process the stones are removed, and only the fruits are cold-pressed, resulting in an extra virgin oil rich in Omega-9 (Oleic acid) with very high amounts of antioxidants called polyphenols (above 750 mg/kg5), both with several beneficial effects.6 The polyphenols protect the BalanceOil+ Vegan in the bottle but even more importantly, also your cells.4
Natural tocopherols
Mixed tocopherols are commonly used antioxidants in dietary supplements. The natural tocopherols used are made from GMO-free, highly refined soy bean oil distillates, which undergo further refining and therefore do not contain any soy proteins. This means there are no allergens present. The typical composition is: alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-tocopherols.
Vitamin D3
Our exclusive vegan vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) comes from a special, organically grown, plant source called lichen. It can accumulate large levels of useful nutrients, including vitamin D3. The vitamin D3 is extracted, and then some coconut oil is added to it. The vitamin D3 is vegan-certified and of course GMO-free.

Spanish extra virgin olive oil in BalanceOil+
Balance Oil+ is made with extra virgin olive oil from the Spanish Picual olive which is selected for its richness in Omega-9 and very high antioxidant content. The Zinzino HBA1C Test
The test is divided into two main parts. First, the actual measurement is performed using an easy at-home, laboratory analyzed self-test for analyzing the long-term blood sugar level (HbA1c) found in capillary blood obtained from a fingertip using the Dried Blood Spot (DBS) technique. This technique is science proven to be as accurate as a venous blood sample when the long-term blood sugar level is analyzed. All it requires is a few drops of blood on a Whatman filter paper and it takes less than a minute to complete. The blood will then be analyzed by VITAS Analytical Services in Norway, one of the world’s leading laboratories within the area. The result will be displayed, after about 10-20 days, on the zinzinotest.com website using your personal, anonymous test ID. What we measure
The Hemoglobin A1c test that we are using to measure the long-term blood sugar level is a measurement of the amount of A1c hemoglobin proteins that have glucose attached. The higher the amount of blood glucose (blood sugar) on average, the more glucose there is attached. It is represented as a unit of measurement in mmol/mol (millimoles per mole) which has been the standard measurement for blood sugar levels since 2009. The result is then categorized in one of 4 different categories:

Prediabetic range 38 – < 47 mmol/mol

3. Stimulate blood flow by making big circles with your arm or shaking the hand downwards for 20 seconds.
4. Take out the single-use lancet. Remove the transparent safety cap and the lancet is ready to use. Use the alcohol wipe to clean the tip of your finger (middle finger is recommended). Place the lancet against the lower part of the fingertip facing the collection paper on the table. Push the top of the lancet towards the finger until you hear a click. The lancet will automatically make a small prick in the finger.
5. Do not touch the filter paper with your fingers.

What we measure
There are different methods to assess stores of vitamin D in your body and we use best practice to ensure our accuracy of analysis is superior. A 25-hydroxyvitamin D test is the best way to monitor vitamin D levels as it measures the 25(OH)D, also called calcidiol, in your blood.
The test reflects all three sources of vitamin D; from food, supplements and skin synthesis, and determines if your vitamin D levels are optimal, too high or too low.
